I’m trying to think of what I should do for my birthday next weekend. My actual birthday is next Saturday, which you know is great and all, but my husband has to be at the h.s. basketball game (his pep band always plays at the home games), which is right in the middle of the darn day. Sunday is also an option, but really… Sunday’s kind of a boring day, and places tend to close early.
So I’m trying to do some sporadic research, and this is all I have thus far:
*Sat., Dec. 15 - go over to Eureka, Mo to take part in the Campfire Wolf Howl at the Endangered Wolf Center. I love wolves, and at some time during this event, you get to walk about a mile to where the wolves are and try to get them to howl. This is a night event, so it MIGHT work, depending on when the basketball game ends (and we live an hour or so away from this place, I think.). This might be a viable option.
*Our Lady of the Snows Way of Lights - The lights here are always great, but I’ve been a few times already in my life. It’s more fun with more people, really.
*Spend the day at Barnes & Noble - I’m kind of a bibliophile.
*Go hiking somewhere in southern Illinois - The only thing is that the weather in mid-December can always be very unpredictable. And I think there’s rain projected on my b-day.
I’m having a tough time trying to figure out what I want to do. It doesn’t help that I live in the middle of nowhere and need to drive at least 40 minutes to get somewhere with life. STL is almost an hour away from us, but aside from that, there’s just a lot of empty cornfields and stuff around. Honestly, I wish I could go to Chicago (either to see Sufjan’s concert or not… preferably yes, but, well…) or go back to the Great Lakes. But… you know, Michigan itself is like, 8 hours away or something like that. I have a radius of about 200 miles to play with, so… yeah.
Oh, well! I’ll figure something out. I just hope my husband won’t be so stressed with all of these Christmas concerts he has to conduct and perform in and all the basketball games that are starting up, let alone the end of the semester. My birthday has always been notoriously crappy, but I try to make the most of it! It’ll be ok as long as I’m with him. :)
