The Greatest Lefty in the West

Apr 25

It’s been almost a year since I’ve heard Steven Page’s album in the office. I distinctly remember my coworker putting on Page One in mid-June and that’s what hooked me. This is the song that really got my attention, and it would not escape my head; I had to know more about Steven and his music. Now I’m a really big fan of his and have found a great deal of inspiration in him as well. And “If You Love Me” is still my favorite song of his. ^_^ It just makes me so happy, even if I’m having such a crappy day. I can’t help dancing to it and singing along to it!

Thanks so much, Steven, for making such awesome music to lift my spirits! :)

Dear Miley. I can’t stop listening to #GetItRight (great song, great message, great body), but maybe you need a quick grammar lesson. One particular line causes concern: “I been laying in this bed all night long.” Miley, technically speaking, you’ve been LYING, not LAYING, an irregular verb form that should only be used when there’s an object, i.e. “I been laying my tired booty on this bed all night long.” Whatever. I’m not the best lyricist, but you know what I mean. #Get It Right The Next Time. But don’t worry, even Faulkner messed it up. We all make mistakes, and surely this isn’t your worst misdemeanor. But also, Miley, did you know the tense here is also totally wrong. Surely you’ve heard of Present Perfect Continuous Tense (I HAVE BEEN LYING in this bed all night long [hopefully getting some beauty sleep?]). It’s a weird, equivocal, almost purgatorial tense, not quite present, not quite past, not quite here, not quite there. Somewhere in between. I feel that way all the time. It kind of sucks. But I have a feeling your “present perfect continuous” involves a lot more excitement than mine. Anyway, doesn’t that also sum up your career right now? Present. Perfect. Continuous. And Tense. Intense? Girl, you work it like Mike Tyson. Miley, I love you because you’re the Queen, grammatically and anatomically speaking. And you’re the hottest cake in the pan. Don’t ever grow old. Live brightly before your fire fades into total darkness. XXOO Sufjan

Less/Fewer? Buses/Busses? The ambiguity of the English language. Are we talking about a fewer number of “crowded buses” or “less-crowded buses” in general? I need to know.

God bless you, Sufjan. I wish I could give you a hug for this!! :)

By the By…

I’m on Wordpress now. If you’d like to read my musings and such (or if you’re on Wordpress and would like to follow me), check out my blog at www.iggynapster.wordpress.com. I do my very best to update at least 5 times a week, if not more. I talk a lot about Michigan and Illinois, Sufjan, the Detroit Tigers, funny things, the weather, and other cool things. I hope to showcase my own artwork on there soon, too. :)

My friend is the most amazing artist in the whole wide world. He created this snow owl from the snowstorm that hit him Christmas night. This is seriously the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time!

We’re gonna have an ugly sweater contest tomorrow so I decided to have a whole crazy outfit. I found a horrible, cheap tree skirt to wear as a cape, and I cut out the words “X-MAS SPIRIT CATCHER” in green construction paper and pinned it on the back of my “cape.” I hope I win the Most ridiculous outfit!

Also included are a horrid sweater, silver garland “belt,” tinsel wings, and tacky ornaments. Oh and a Santa hat. w00t!

Max Scherzer? On STL’s News?!

Yes!!

Max apparently was awarded the Hometown Hero Award, so he had a short interview on Channel 5 here in STL! How cool is that?!? Congrats, Max! You deserved it!!! :D

When I’m stressed or need a good pick-me-up, this version of Sufjan’s “The Transfiguration” never fails to do the trick. Not that I’m in sour spirits today! This song just happened to come on in my playlist at work, and, well, I just felt compelled to share it! I really love the video, too. I think it’s sweet that he moves back and forth to make his wings flap around the 2:23 mark. ^_^ And there’s something so inspiring in the horn arrangement and the strings added in the music. One day I’m going to figure out the fingerings on my trumpet and oboe, once I figure out the actual fingerings to the oboe, haha! ;)

So if you need a lift, just listen to this, and you’ll have a better day! ^_^

A Decision’s Been Made!

I saw that the Endangered Wolf Center in Eureka, Missouri, offers tours Friday through Sunday, and you can see the wolves on these tours. I asked my husband to do that, and he said that he’ll be looking into it!

So yeah! I will probably be visiting some beautiful endangered wolves next Sunday! YAY!!!! I’m VERY excited! :)

Hmm, What To Do?

I’m trying to think of what I should do for my birthday next weekend. My actual birthday is next Saturday, which you know is great and all, but my husband has to be at the h.s. basketball game (his pep band always plays at the home games), which is right in the middle of the darn day. Sunday is also an option, but really… Sunday’s kind of a boring day, and places tend to close early.

So I’m trying to do some sporadic research, and this is all I have thus far:

*Sat., Dec. 15 - go over to Eureka, Mo to take part in the Campfire Wolf Howl at the Endangered Wolf Center. I love wolves, and at some time during this event, you get to walk about a mile to where the wolves are and try to get them to howl. This is a night event, so it MIGHT work, depending on when the basketball game ends (and we live an hour or so away from this place, I think.). This might be a viable option.

*Our Lady of the Snows Way of Lights - The lights here are always great, but I’ve been a few times already in my life. It’s more fun with more people, really.

*Spend the day at Barnes & Noble - I’m kind of a bibliophile.

*Go hiking somewhere in southern Illinois - The only thing is that the weather in mid-December can always be very unpredictable. And I think there’s rain projected on my b-day.

I’m having a tough time trying to figure out what I want to do. It doesn’t help that I live in the middle of nowhere and need to drive at least 40 minutes to get somewhere with life. STL is almost an hour away from us, but aside from that, there’s just a lot of empty cornfields and stuff around. Honestly, I wish I could go to Chicago (either to see Sufjan’s concert or not… preferably yes, but, well…) or go back to the Great Lakes. But… you know, Michigan itself is like, 8 hours away or something like that. I have a radius of about 200 miles to play with, so… yeah.

Oh, well! I’ll figure something out. I just hope my husband won’t be so stressed with all of these Christmas concerts he has to conduct and perform in and all the basketball games that are starting up, let alone the end of the semester. My birthday has always been notoriously crappy, but I try to make the most of it! It’ll be ok as long as I’m with him. :)
